This DIY Foaming hand soap recipe is super easy to make and uses all-natural ingredients. This recipe is budget-friendly and comes together in just a couple of minutes. You only need a few simple ingredients on hand, and you’re ready to go.
I will be the first to say that I’m not very crafty. I don’t get excited about DIY projects and if I can just buy it to make my life easier then I will. However, when it comes to my cleaning products and this DIY foaming hand soap, I would never go back to the store-bought options.

DIY Foaming Hand Soap is Budget-Friendly
When I was trying to find non-toxic hand soaps in-store, I realized they can be pretty pricey. I’m talking $5-$10 a bottle, sometimes even more! This DIY foaming hand soap is super budget-friendly!
Depending on where you purchase your ingredients, (I highly recommend Thrive Market or amazon for the steepest discount) the total cost will range from $1.50-$2.50 for 8 ounces of foaming hand soap. Not to mention that foaming hand soap lasts way longer than regular hand soap. A little goes a long way. I find myself hardly having to refill my soap containers and we wash our hands a lot.
Toxic Ingredients in Hand Soap
Most hand soaps commonly found at the store contain toxic ingredients. They can also dry out your hands and cause rashes or even eczema. If you are someone who often washes your hands or you have kids at home, finding a non-toxic option with clean ingredients is very important.
Some ingredients I personally avoid in my hand soaps are fragrance, sodium Lauryl sulfate, PEGs, and methylisothiazolinone. Unfortunately, due to the FDA’s fragrance loophole, there are over 3,000 ingredients that can be hidden in the word fragrance alone. Companies NEVER have to disclose what’s in their “fragrance”! It can hide ingredients known to be harmful to human health like parabens and phthalates.
Ever experience eczema or rashes on your hands? Sodium Lauryl Sulfate aka SLS is an ingredient I avoid at all costs if it’s going on my skin. This surfactant is known to disrupt the skin barrier and contribute to these pesky rashes. As soon as I eliminated this from my hand and dish soap, I never got a rash on my hands again, even if I wash them a million times a day. I warn you to check all body washes, face washes, and soaps. I guarantee it’s probably in there.
How To Make DIY Foaming Hand Soap
Okay, so first things first. You absolutely must have a foaming soap dispenser for this recipe to work. If not, you will be very disappointed. It’s not the actual soap recipe that causes it to foam, but the dispenser. You can order a nice reusable foaming soap dispenser on Amazon, or at the store. You can also just buy foaming hand soap from the store and then continue to reuse the bottle it originally came in.
Then you will pour in 1/3 cup of Dr. Bronner’s liquid Castile soap. This soap is super concentrated and made with all-natural ingredients. You can buy the naturally scented versions or just stick to unscented.
After that, I add 1tsp of jojoba oil for some extra moisturizing benefits and up to 30 drops of your favorite essential oils. I like to have fun with this part and mix it up depending on the season. For this recipe, I used 10 drops of tea tree for natural antibacterial benefits, 10 drops of lavender, and 5 drops of vanilla.
Last but not least, pour in about 2/3 cups of distilled water, and voila you have foaming hand soap. It actually makes me feel kind of fancy.
Well, that is all for my DIY Foaming Hand Soap. Super easy right? If this recipe was helpful to you, be sure to give it a star rating, and I would love to hear what you thought in the comments below.
